When I chose a presidential candidate I look for certain qualities. Because the president is the leader of our nation I think he/she must have strong leadership skills. I feel that a strong leader can give hope to a nation and help guide us in the right direction. Also, I think a president have solid government experience. An experienced president will obviously be a better president. I want my president to also be determined to achieve all of his goals and plans that will benefit our nation. Additionally, I want a president that stands behind his beliefs and opinions but will admit to being wrong and correct his mistakes and errors.

One of the issues that is important to me in this election is poverty in the United States of America. With more and more people in poverty, I believe that something needs to be done to help bring Americans out of this poverty. I also feel that Americans losing jobs overseas and to immigrants is a very important issue. I want jobs to be kept in America for the American worker to earn his living as opposed to cheap laborers in other countries. I also believe that there needs to be more focus on strengthening education to all Americans. A strong education will help make a stronger nation.

My vote for 2008 president is Ron Paul.  Ron Paul is my choice for president because of where he stands on the issues that are important to me.

Education

The federal government does not own our children. Yet we act as if it does by letting it decide when, how, and what our children will learn.

Ron believes it should be up to the parents to control their children’s education because they know their children better than any politician ever will.  This sure makes sense to me.  Also, Ron has developed tax cuts to teachers that will encourage good teachers to stay in what he calls “an underpaid profession.”

Another reason I am voting for Mr. Paul is because of his view on government.  Ron believes there is too much government in our lives and they are interfering with our privacy in our homes.  He also states that we are wasting hundreds of billions of dollars in military operations in Korea, Japan, and China because World War II ended over 50 years ago.  Yet again, Mr. Paul’s opinion really makes a lot of sense to me.  He also believes that we should not go to war without the voice of the people through a Declaration of War.  Yet again, this is something I believe makes complete sense because it should be up to the people as a whole, not just one man, when we go to war.

I also agree with Mr. Paul’s view on Health Care compared to Barack and Hillary and their idea of Universal Healthcare.  Paul believes:

The federal government will not suddenly become efficient managers if universal health care is instituted. Government health care only means long waiting periods, lack of choice, poor quality, and frustration. Many Canadians, fed up with socialized medicine, come to the U.S. in order to obtain care. Socialized medicine will not magically work here.

Health care should not be left up to HMOs, big drug companies, and government bureaucrats.

It is time to take back our health care. This is why I support:

  • Making all medical expenses tax deductible.
  • Eliminating federal regulations that discourage small businesses from providing coverage.
  • Giving doctors the freedom to collectively negotiate with insurance companies and drive down the cost of medical care.
  • Making every American eligible for a Health Savings Account (HSA), and removing the requirement that individuals must obtain a high-deductible insurance policy before opening an HSA.
  • Reform licensure requirements so that pharmacists and nurses can perform some basic functions to increase access to care and lower costs.

For many reasons I am voting for Ron Paul for president in 2008.  I support Ron because I believe what he says and what he stands for.  I also believe Mr. Paul supports what he truly believes and has plans that will actually work compared to the other candidates.
