The authors of this article were very effective at showing the ways in which Third World women are being mistreated. The essay was powerfully written and it is clear the authors were both passionate about the topic and were women. In my opinion, the most powerful message from the article was the analogy of Third World governments and corporations to that of a pimp and his customers. However, the thing I don’t understand is why the governments of these Third World nations would want the corporations in their country. It is stated the corporations are only in these countries for cheap labor and have no interest in developing the economy of these Third World nations. Obviously, I believe what the corporations are doing is a terrible act that demonstrates complete exploitation of people in poverty, but I also feel that the Third World governments are even more to blame. If these governments know the corporations have no interest in development, why would they want to put their women through these terrible and hazardous conditions. Also, our wonderful United States of America donating $400 million dollars to put women through hell doesn’t make me particularly happy. $400 million dollars could certainly help the Third World nations in ways other than female exploitation. The US government certainly spends their large sums of money in the wrong ways. Has the US government heard of education? $400 million dollars could go a long way in strengthening education in the Third World. And education also reduces poverty so this idea makes a whole lot more sense to me than the way they are spending their money now. Additionally, by focusing on education we would keep the factory jobs here in the United States which would strengthen our economy. I think our government needs to realize about the possible recession that is going on currently. Finally, vote RON PAUL 2008

I agree with everything you said. I think the Third World nations allow corporations in for money. Maybe they think it will help their economy. I do think it is a bad thing to allow the corporations into their countries. Especially since corporations do not just use cheap labor, but they use the nations resources as well.
